Event #1 We're All Living in the Estroworld

Today I had the pleasure to join a zoom where Marry Maggic talked about several projects she's done and some that she is currently actively working on. A lot of what she talked about this morning were things that I've never heard of or thought about. They were all interesting and out of the box ideas and concepts which is why she is so unique. Much of her talk was centered around estrogen and how society reacts to this word and how it affects the human body both male and female. Mary goes on to talk about how she wanted to take a deeper dive into Estrogen. She began by looking at it at a molecular level and looked at the Estrogen receptors which are active and present in Estrogen. She also goes on to talk about non-locality and "colonial logic" when she is referring to plastic and its history and how it is produced. The topic of plastic was one that she talked about for a while and one comment that she made that stuck with me was the fact that she said plastic is now a part of nature and our everyday life. I've never thought about that but it is most definitely true. Lastly, towards the end of the zoom she talked about all of the projects and experiments she has done. Just to name and describe one, she said that she would get samples of peoples urine and extract the hormones from them. The hormones would leave a brown color at the bottom of the test tube and she would later examine it. Her newest idea and experiment she wants to do is dissect sweat from athletic people and try and understand the hormones and other various aspects that are present. I most definitely would recommend this to a friend as she talks about bio art and the importance of art and how art comes in several different forms which are some of the many topics we talk about in this class.
