Week 4 Medicine + Technology + Art
This week's lectures and readings have really expanded my horizons when thinking about art and the body. These two concepts are very similar in several different ways. The body is a form of living art and so are all the bones and body parts. Our body anatomy has been used for years to understand art and art has been expressed over our bodies. The concept of technology and art would also come back to display itself.

From personal experience I’ve had a few didn’t trips to the hospital in order to get MRI’s which are examples of medical technologies I’ve been exposed to. The results from these MRI’s are very detailed and precise and can be looked at as an example of art. I’ve also received several X-rays which is another aspect of art. These two remind me of what was said in lecture when our professor talked about how images and body parts have been examined and preserved since the beginning of time. Such can be seen with mummies bodies being saved and preserved along with body parts being taken out and examined and studied. The human body is constantly referenced and in the topic of art more than we may understand and or realize.

Another aspect of this week's lectures were talking about the impact and history of plastic surgery. The history of this goes way back in history and currently hasn’t lost any traction. Plastic surgery in recent years has gained a lot of popularity and is used on several different body parts.

Hi Jack. I really enjoyed reading your post and hearing your thoughts. I like the connection you made between body and art. As you mentioned plastic surgery I think another topic in the same realm could also be tattoos. In this sense the body serves as a canvas for the tattoos which makes it in a sense a piece of art.
ReplyDeleteHi Jack,
ReplyDeleteI liked reading your post this week and getting to understand your point of view on this topic. I thought we both had similar experiences with medicinal technology which is what drew me to your post this week. Technology has advanced so fast and it has been interesting to watch it grow and learn about it more in depth in class through lectures and our course readings. Great work Jack!
