Event #3 Nina Sobell

For my third event of the quarter I had the pleasure of listening to Nina Sobell. It was an overall great presentation as she went over what she does and what she studies while also going over her journey and how she got so involved in her work. I learned so many incredible facts and concepts that I didn’t even think were possible. Her work consists of using people's brain waves in order to show different interesting facts about the human mind. For instance, she talked about how they used some technology that connects to the person's head and as a result it shoots out on a computer or paper a brainwave drawing. Brainwave drawings were created through their mental thoughts through brainwaves. She also describes they did the same set up on two different humans and showed that one person's thoughts can influence the other and they had the brain wave drawings and graphs to show for it. They learned a lot from these people's brain wave patterns. Electrodes were used to their heads. It was proven that one person's ideas and thoughts could change based on the other person all through non-verbal communication. Another interesting thing that Nina mentioned was the fact that these experiments were done in public and with public participants which I thought was unique. This was very much ground breaking and ahead of its time. Another interesting concept was that some of the first apple commuters were used during these experiments. These ideas and concepts reminded me a lot about when we learned about neuroscience in this class. Both of these subjects explain all the powers the brain has and how complex and simple the brain is. I immediately was hoping she was going to use it for those who sleep and can maybe learn in greater detail how humans dream, why they dream, and if the charts of them dreaming could help us learn more. Just because the Neuroscience lecture described a lot about humans and their thinking and dreaming habits. I highly recommend having my classmates look into this subject matter and learn more about Nina Sobell as she is terrific and has very unique and different experiments and ideas.
